August 2013

I could totally see myself living in Washington DC. It’s the perfect mix of urban and rural, and not over whelming at all. I also thoroughly enjoy Washington Dulles International Airport cos its just looks so dang cool! And obviously Mr President lives there!

My trip to DC was spilt in 2 by visiting a camp friends college William and Mary in the middle. It’s so awesome seeing American colleges. They are just like the movies and I basically got to live Pitch Perfect, I watched three a cappella groups have a riff off and it was totally amazeballs!! The first half of DC was spent with my cousin’s girlfriend’s aunty Kim. She took me on a great tour around the city showing me all her favorite places. It was nice to have a local show me around and show me things I wouldn’t have seen if I were just wandering around by myself.

When Kim first mentioned ‘The Mall’ I (and anyone not familiar with Washington DC) was like oh yeah cool a shopping center, I can always do some shopping. But no it’s a super long area with the Lincoln Memorial on one side and the Capitol on the other, with the Washington Monument slightly west of the center. It also has really cool FREE (I love free) museums along the National Mall. And now whenever I watch Night At The Museum 2 I start yelling “I HAVE BEEN THERE” long story short no one will watch it with me anymore.

I had been told that Obama buys his cupcakes from Georgetown Cupcake SO OBVIS I had to try them! If they were good enough for Obama they were good enough for me, and who doesn’t love cupcakes if you just said you don’t you are lying to yourself! There was such a ridiculous line from the door going up the hill but I was in this for the long haul. We were handed menus so we could spend the time in line deciding what cupcakes to buy, I still had no idea by the time I got in the door. Kim and I bought 3 cupcakes each and we ate them by the river watching the sunset quite a nice night if you ask me! Obama you chose well.

The second half of my DC trip was spend with a family friend Travis, who lived outside of the city so we would catch the train into the city in the morning where Travis would go to work and I would adventure into the city. I took a FREE tour of the capitol, it had some sick celling’s and was really interesting. I wondered the National Mall down to the Lincoln Memorial for your classic tourist photo in front of Lincoln. From there I wondered to chinatown and found a movie theater where I watched One Direction This Is Us, your not even allowed to judge me.

I went to my first baseball game in DC. We ate pretzels and hot dogs and got so caught up in the atmosphere it was incredible. That’s another thing to tick of the bucket list. I still don’t understand the game but I can sing you all the chants.

Maybe one day I will come back to live in Washington DC and eat a thousand more cupcakes but until then you stay cool DC.
